On a recent trip out west, I saw this gorgeous Prickly Pear Cactus in bloom with bright pink flowers! Being from Pennsylvania, Cacti are so foreign to me and I find them so interesting! They have so much variety of color and texture and the shapes are always captivating.

About the Painting:
Bryce Cannon is possibly my favorite National Park! It is so beautiful and very unique. This painting captures the view of a natural bridge from one of the scenic lookout points. We visited in early spring so there was still snow in some areas, which only enhanced the beauty of the landscape! The contrast between the bold oranges and bright white snow was incredible!

Loose, unblended brushstrokes capture the layers and texture of the arch and surrounding hoodoos.

Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, Fallingwater is a house that was designed in 1935 by Frank Lloyd Wright. It is considered to be an architectural masterpiece and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophy of “organic architecture” aims to create harmony between human structures and the natural world. Fallingwater is a major tourist destination and I am so lucky to have been there several times, since I grew up in the area!

About the Painting:
In December of 2023 I traveled to the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina. The trip was filled with some of the most jaw dropping landscapes I have ever seen in my life. One of the most memorable ones was the drive to a small hiking town in southern Argentina called El Chalten. The road is windy and suddenly the backdrop of the formations becomes visible.

For this painting, I took the shapes of the rock formations from the original photograph and applied bright, impressionist colors. Instead of blending, the brushstrokes are laid on the canvas side by side creating movement and texture.

On a recent trip to Patagonia, I visited Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Chile. The hike up to see the three towers was incredibly challenging but so rewarding! The lake is glacier run-off so the water is crystal turquoise. I will never forget it.
